I am an addicted drinker, I drink only after dinner i.e at least half a bottle of wisky with two litres of water, can anyone suggest wether drinking lots of water will at least minimize the alcohol damage? Do not tell me to go for counselling and to stop drinking.

sorry, you’re out of luck. Only if the water fills you up to the point that you won’t drink as much. You said it yourself, you’re an addicted drinker, what would you tell someone if they told you they were addicted to drugs?

No, about the only thing it will do is keep you hydrated more than just plain drinking will.

no. The alcohol will still destroy brain cells and cause liver damage. The only thing the water will do is keep you hydrated and help prevent hangovers.

Yes, it will by helping your liver in flushing the toxins. It also aids your kidneys in flushing the toxins (alcohol) from your blood. If you do alittle research on the internet, you will find other supplements, vitamins, etc. that will help you to become a “healthier” drinker, as I am….. cheers!

I would never say to go to counseling, but you may want to have your kidneys and liver checked periodically. Especially if you are drinking to the point that you are worrying about damage. Bottoms up.

The water will help you feel better. Alcohol pulls water out of your system, so by replacing what you’re losing you won’t get as dehydrated. It’s good advice in general to drink water while you’re drinking, or shortly thereafter, to keep from getting a hangover. Avoid fizzy drinks, though, which increase alcohol absorption. Food, or even a glass of milk, will slow absorption, and help stave off a headache.
Whether you slow down the absorption of alcohol or not, however, your body has to process everything you put into it. The alcohol will likely have the same long-term effect, but not the immediate hang-over effect, if you are drinking water, too.
It occurs to me, though, that two litres of water is a LOT all at once. You may be in more danger of over hydration, or water intoxication, where you dilute your blood too much; this can be fatal. (You might recall the mother in Calif. who died recently after a water-drinking contest.) Because you are drinking a day’s worth of water in one sitting, and because the alcohol you are consuming will dehydrate you and upset the level of sodium in your system, I would suggest drinking a sports drink with electrolytes rather than straight water. I am piecing this together from what I’m finding online; I would check with a professional. You may have to sit through a lecture about your drinking, but it’s probably worth it to find out how to be as safe as you can.
    I wish you the best.

Damage will be the same but the hangover will be a lot better!!!!

Water will not lessen the effect that alcohol is having on your liver. Water will only serve to keep you hydrated.

Drinking lots of water will definitely help your liver – for two reasons. One, you tend to drink less alcohol when you also drink lots of water because you get a “full” filling. Two, the water helps to flush your liver, which is the organ most susceptible to damage from abuse of alcohol. In addition, drinking lots of water while drinking alcohol usually diminishes the effects of any hangover the next morning. I, too, am a heavy drinker and also drink lots of water (during the day though, not while I am drinking). My liver function was checked not long ago as part of a complete physical and was in excellent condition, as am I. Keep up the water intake!
