It depends on to what extent the individual is addicted. If the individual is heavily addicted, detox should only be done with professional medical help. Alcohol detoxification can kill if not done with medical assistance. Then the psychological damage must be dealt with. This usually takes a lifetime. Alcohol is not a harmless drug it kills more people than any other substance.
