I suffer from ADHD and have my whole life. I have always preferred to manage the symptoms on my own through diet excercise and structure. Recently I have become very overwhelmed by the symptoms… I have been through counseling, completely removed sugar and alcohol from my diet. I have tried planners, sticky notes, journals, meditation, yoga, everything. I need help! I went to the doctor yesterday to see if I could get a prescription until I can get myself back on my feet. The doctor said I needed to come back and undergo a blood test and urinalysis. Is this a normal procedure and why?

I’m not very familiar with Adderall and its side effects, but perhaps your doctor wants to just check the levels of everything in your body as a baseline, and after being on Adderall for a few months he might run the tests again to see if anything has changed (negatively) due to the medication. I would trust the doctor and assume he/she knows what they’re doing. Good luck =D

Usually they test for lead and liver functions. Lead poisoning can look like ADHD. They want baseline liver function tests to make sure the liver is okay and to use to compare to future functions. Sometimes medications can cause the liver’s function to go down.
