The alcohol can be a way to avoid the trauma, and alcoholism can create additional trauma as well. Either way, the trauma is first.

It is necessary that you get in touch with someone who has been trained in the field of mental health. It is possible that you have a history of trauma in your past which you have been treating it with alcohol. The first step would be to try to get treatment for your trauma and then proceed with eliminating alcohol from your regime. Eliminating alcohol is not going to be very easy and in fact it is probably be the greatest obstacle that you will need to overcome. Once you are able to stop drinking and have sobriety you will still have the desire to have a drink and will need to attend AA. This group will help you remain sober. But the first thing you need to do is to obtain treatment for your trauma with someone who is trained in such matters.

Detox programs might provide the answer you seek. I suggest finding the help of a licensed professional, a 12 step program or a drug rehab. Don’t be a victim of your disease.

    Take it easy.
