Do you see alcoholism as a true disease?

Or is it simply a label we apply to people who like to drink too much?

not a disease as such. you don’t really call drug-takers diseased. just addicted. alcohol -is- a drug.

In the medical sense, alcoholism is a true disease. Many who say they like to drink too much and are not alcoholics are really trying to avoid the fact that they have a problem, and make it seem acceptable.
However if drinking is NOT playing a negative part in one’s life, such as causing health problems, social issues, or financial issues, then I would personally say that the person who is drinking, is probably not drinking ‘too’ much. But if they are unable to stop drinking and find it is forming a habit, then it is becoming a disease.
Hope this helps!

Depends on who you’re asking.
I do see it as a TRUE disease, my mother suffers from it.
But I do believe that it’s something that can be cured with willpower and self control.
I don’t think that teenagers who go partying and drinking every night should really be considered alcoholics, I think they’re just having fun.
I think you should be considered an alcoholic when all you do is drink, by yourself, at home or if you’re homeless, in the gutter, basically until you pass out in your own urine and throw up… or die.
And if you’re not doing that then you’re not happy.
Well, I guess you wouldn’t really be happy either way, because alcoholics are usually severely depressed.
But either way, that’s what I think.
Drinking alone until your life is gone- alcoholism
Drinking with your friends and then going home and passing out everynight- having fun

What happened to people just being drunks? Alcoholism is just a PC cop out of what’s really going on.
