How long do people stay in rehab for alcoholism? ?
Posted by: Alan in alcoholism treatment, tags: Alcoholism, Long, People, Rehab, stay
My boss is a RAGING alcoholic, and says she went to rehab and was told she wasn’t that bad, and would only be there a few days. She supposedly was there less than 5 days. That seems odd to me.

Like all practicing alcoholics, she demonstrates extreme denial and little acquaintance with truth.
Without jeopardizing your job, there is almost nothing you can do.

YEARS ago insurance would pay for a 28 day stint, but not today. Not by a long shot.
Now, patients are stabilized and released. 3-5 days in an inpatient facility is a certainly a reasonable possibility, particularly if there are no major complicating medical issues. Patients are typically advised to seek outpatient counseling/AA type groups after that.
Sad, but true.

However long it takes. If it only takes 5 days then that’s how long you’ll be there. It’ 100% up to you.

as said earlier, insurance for inpatient care only covers enough to stabilize the patient and then they are sent to outpatient facilities. though she could very well be lying, as do many functioning alcoholics. maybe you could show your support by taking her out for dinner(no drinks), support through this difficult period in an addicts recovery is essential and the support can make or break her goals.

If it is voluntary (not court mandated) then a person chan check himself/herself out of rehab at anytime. If the person is going through a medical detox, he/she must be under the supervision of a medical professional and may be required to stay until the fatal withdrawal symptoms pass. Most rehabs are 14-28 days.
