    I think anyone with a problem who is in denial will tend to blame the situation rather than themselves for a problem they have. And it’s likely that people started drinking because of their circumstances, so they see this as a cause and blame their problem on that.

    It’s hard for alcoholics to recognize their problem because drinking impairs their ability to think clearly. It’s easier for them to blame others around them and not change their behaviors. The purpose of an alcohol intervention is to get them to recognize that they are responsible for their behavior.
