Both are based on Bad Genetics… Both are forms of mental illness… So yeah… They are similar and they both distort reality.
Remember, “Addiction” is defined by consequences, not usage… When the negative consequences of your actions mount and you can’t stop, it is addiction and mental illness.
People lose friends all the time to their Theism.
People alienate their family all the time because of their Theism.
People lose their jobs due to theism.
Theism is often the cause of racism and bigotry.
Theism is often the cause of censorship and oppression.
Theism often results in death, torture, and other horrors against our species.
Yet people can’t give it up…
That is the definition of mental illness.

Religion is like battered wife syndrome.

Yes, it’s a good analogy.
Religion, like alcohol, distorts our reasoning faculty, it gets in the way of the truth.
It’s comforting for a while but when you give it up, you see reality.

So according to you any and all religion is a lie? Of course, you have something to substantiate that claim? No? Then stop wasting everyones time.

Yes. Both can be learned traits. And once you are so afflicted, then it is hard to listen to others who try to tell you the truth (or just things that you do not want to hear). Both are hard habits to kick.
