How Do I Become An Addict Counselor?
Posted by: Alan in Alcohol Counseling, tags: Addict, Become, Counselor
I want to do drug/alcohol abuse counseling for my career and I was wondering what kind of degrees and such I will need to get there.
I only graduate from high school next year, so I want to know just what I need to get started on to be on my way.
And the job itself means more than any aspect of it to me, but if anyone knows how much it pays that would be helpful too.
Thanks!

You have to take a BSc (Bachelor in Science) in Psychology. You cannot take the B.A (Bachelor of Arts). Following that, complete the Honours year.
When you finish all those in 4 years, go for the MSc (Masters in Science) in Psychology. During the course of study, your major should be Abnormal Psychology or Psychopathology. Then you’ll be certified as a professional psychologist.

Start with a B.S. in psychology, sometimes you can find certain emphases like “counseling” or things of the sort. A really important thing to look for during college is internship opportunities during your sophomore year. Luckily, I don’t think you’ll have a hard time finding some kind of internship or volunteer work with this field. You can ask to work at or attend AA meetings or other things similar to that.
good luck!

take a look at the occupational forcast which is a summary of all professions stating educational requirements and starting income,. and projected job openings. , These jobs do not pay extremely well. you need to be certified or licensed at the graduate level, which is 6 years of college, unless you go to med school and become a psychiatrist.
