I am planning to major in Psychology when I transfer and then when I’m done, apply for School Counseling (Grad School). I was given some advice in calling some youth centers, schools, etc and try to find volunteer work. There’s just so many different thing to help in, where would I look into for School Counseling? Would any be beneficial? There’s drug and alcohol abuse, job counseling, education (tutoring etc) all sorts. Any suggestions or advice?

At a homeless shelter or some sort of Big Brother.

I think it depends on what type of counseling you want to go into. I also want to get my master’s in counseling, I became especially sure of this after volunteering with a children’s program at a shelter for victims of domestic violence. I’d recommend doing something that you feel especially drawn to or find interesting. Or is you have no idea, try out a few different things. Visit http://www.volunteermatch.org to search specific opportunities in your area. Also, if want to do something short-term abroad, visit http://www.worldhelplink.com. It has links to affordable opportunities to volunteer or intern abroad. Good luck!
