Not considering how strong they are, but just their effects upon the body, is there any difference? Do different types of alcohol give you different “kinds” of being drunk?

all the same, just the amount of alcohol in it either gets you more drunk or takes more time to get drunk

I won’t even touch the stuff now.

I’m having problems recovering (it’s been a few days), and was wondering if there was anything I should do to help my body? I have no appetite, yet strong hunger pangs and upset stomach. I am also having some memory problems, such as forgetting very recent actions and events, but that side effect is fading now.

Any tips, other than the obvious to never drink alcohol that much again?

if your worried , go see a doctor.. but drink plenty of water and eat lots of fresh healthy foods and rest, your body needs good fuel to help it recover. I always drink lots of sweet drinks and water if i have a hangover and it helps the brain recover quicker. hard lesson huh..lol you’ll be fine.

Your body is dependent on it now.

Your best bet will be to slowly ween yourself off of it. Drink less and less each day, and if that doesnt help you will need to go to a detox place. It really sucks but its going to be the only way to get rid of the alcohol dependency.

well some will be real pissed off. some will try to get more meds buy lying to you that they lost theres. some will puke alot. some will be out of it. some will be just plain crazy so have fun.

I’m sorry to hear about your brother who is struggling with addiction. It can be a difficult and uncertain process for a person to recover from drugs and alcohol, that’s for sure.

The reality is that there is no “mandatory” drug rehab centers that will lock you down during the course of treatment. The closest thing to it is court-ordered treatment, which even then often times a person can leave if they want to but will then be in violation of the courts.

If your brother REALLY wants to get clean and sober than he must be willing to do the work. He should look at his past experiences in rehab and see what it is about either himself or the facility or the type of approach used that caused him to leave. Some rehabs are like military camps, others are in relaxing residential settings. Some are very strict and severe, some are more therapeutic and based on the individual’s needs. Your brother should consider what he is getting into before he commits to make sure he can live with his decision, the wrong type of recovery approach can make someone not want to get sober. Believe me, I know that personally.

Yes: ever hear of the “DTs?”
if someone is drinking heavily and then just stops, the body can experience seizures, uncontrolled high blood pressure and confusion/anxiety/agitation.
It’s a reason that people are hospitalized from detox facilities when they become acutely ill while detoxing.

I myself have been hospitalized in a mental hospital and have been on different meds, seen various therapists.

I’ve never drank alcohol because I know almost for a fact that it would lead me down the same road my dad never turned off of and my brother did decide to turn off of.

I’ve been diagnosed with depression/bipolar disorder – the doctors aren’t quite sure.

My question is that is alcoholism an actual disorder or are there just mental disorders where alcohol and other substances for that matter, fill the void that is so constant with manic depression, depression, etc.

Drinking is a self-destructive coping mechanism, like cutting, or banging your head off the wall. You need to find POSITIVE coping mechanisms, like talking about your problems, exercising, yoga, and meditation. It’s no coincidence that healthy, happy, non-addicted people tend to do stuff like that.

lawyers are the difference between 2 years in jail and two weeks time served on an appeal, but i’m sure you don’t need my life’s story. get a lawyer, it’s worth the thousand bucks if you really need the legal protection
