i have been diagnosed ‘alcoholic’ but is ‘addiction’ the real disease? if i have the addictive gene why did i choose alcohol, why not sex, gambling, food, crime etc.,….if you are predisposed to alcoholism are you more likely to become alcoholic? i’m confused as to whether alcoholism is a disease or just a state of mind or do people have an addictive gene and discover their obsession through circumstance?

I’ve been researching a method called Pharmacological Extinction which, for alcoholics that actually want to quit (as opposed to being pressured into quitting by others), it’s supposed to have something like a 25% complete abstinance rate and 87% rate of reduction below where alcohol consumption causes cellular damage.
The problem is that this cure seems to exist mostly in Finland. Has anyone here tried it? How effective was it for you?

i am an alcohol, sex & gambling addict. My biggest addiction is alcohol, but is it OK to have sex? When I have sex, I feel like drinking & having sex. I was told in a rehab to abstain from sex for atleast 18 months, but I am really horny & I both relapsed into alcohol & had sex last week. Can i try to recover from alcoholism , but continue having sex?
