Question by aisling tu: My sister lives in Blackwood, New Jersey, and I need to find an alcohol rehab for her. How will I do this?
I live far away from her, and what’s worse is that I did not even know she had a problem with her alcohol consumption until her bestfriend called me on the phone to ask for my help. My sister and I are really close, but she deliberately kept her addiction from me. I have already talked to her and I think she’s now willing to get herself treated. Plese tell me how I can find an alcohol rehab in her vicinity.

You can ask your sister’s best friend to take her to a hospital. That way, she will be getting recommendations and suggestions from the professionals themselves. You can also check out the links that I have included below, or look through the yellow pages. I really hope your sister gets well soon.

Question by Saramazingg: Symptoms of alcohol poisoning?
What are the symptoms of alcohol poisoning? A few weeks ago I drank about 8-10 shots of vodka and some kind of dark liquor (i was too upset to care not to mix light and dark)
I’m 5′4″ and about 95-96 lbs. I have a small tolerance for alcohol. The next day I was still drunk (or it seemed like it – it wasn’t hangover) for most of the day and puked when I don’t normally puke. And idk it was just really bad I was really sick. What are the symptoms exactly?

I’d say you were pushing the “poisoning” envelope. It depends on the amount of time between said drinks as well. Any time you drink a lot of booze, sleep for 6-8 hours and wake up still drunk that is getting risky. Normally blackouts, uncontrolled bladder/bowel movements, etc… are good signs of alcohol poisoning.

Question by kshb6565: I tested positive for benzos on my urine drug test when I have not taken any. How could this be?
I’m on prozac, trazidone and lamictal. I drink alot of caffiene and take B-6 and B-12. I also drink propel vitamin mix for vitamins. I was recently in detox for alcoholism and did receive librium for withdrawl systems. My first test came up negative soon after I came out of detox and my last one came up with a 400 positive. I am so upset and confused. Thank you for any help.

Question by sjp77: How do you get an alcoholic that is suspected of being in the early stages of alcoholic dementia to see a dr.?
My mother has been an alcoholic for over 10 years. After much pleading from the family, she decided to stop drinking and start attending AA meetings. There is a noticeable difference in her general character, and has seemingly become more and more illiterate especially over the past year. We have asked her to please go to the doctor, but refuses saying there’s nothing wrong with her. How can we get her to see that we are only trying to help her by going to see the doctor?

Your mother is suffering from Korsakoff syndrome, which is brain damage caused by years of heavy drinking. Alcohol prevents the body from utilizing thiamine (vitamin b-1) properly. This leads to neuron death. This shows up behaviorally as impaired judgment, impaired memory, and a host of other problems.
One of the first symptoms of alcoholism is denial. “I only drink beer”, “I only drink at night”, “I can stop anytime I want to”. The excuses go on and on. The same psychology which causes this denial is continuing with your mother now. “There’s nothing wrong with me”. The psychology of denial plus the impaired judgment lead your mother to think that she’s fine.
You’re probably not going to be able to convince your mother to go to a doctor on her own. I know that this is not what you want to hear.
I’ve put a link to korsakoff-syndrome below to better help you understand what is happening to your mother.
