He will need both to actually overcome his anxiety. Medication is useless without counseling, and counseling is usually insufficient on its own.
He’s also developed a dependence on alcohol and that’s a slipper slope into addiction and abuse.
Tread lightly.
You can’t ‘’save” or ”fix” a person that isn’t ready to accept help for themselves. Instead of exhausting and endangering yourself, find a way to amicably leave the relationship and surround yourself with healthy and positive people. You’re going to burn out and feel resentment and guilt if you don’t.

I completed my 3 month treatment (12 classes) and was told I was done. I then had some drinks the following weekend. The week after that, I went to my exit interview and they wanted a urine sample which I failed. I have now received a summons to appear back in court. What do you think the court will do? Question by gs_analyst: How long on average does it take for the human body to detox off of alcohol?
Say after 5 years of on and off again heavy drinking.
Best answer:
Answer by TNW
“Alcohol detox generally can take anywhere from three to five days to be completed, depending on the pattern of the alcohol abuse and consumption, and the process of which the alcohol detox is being undergone. When alcohol detox is being completed under medical care, medications are usually given to the patient to alleviate the pain of the withdrawal symptoms, and aid in the avoidance of any permanent side effects resulting from the alcohol detox process. Some of the possible lasting effects that can occur as a result of alcohol detox include delirium tremors, also referred to as DTs, convulsions, nausea, headaches, constant shakes and insomnia.”
