My daughter doesn’t want to spend her time in rehab. I was wondering how I could find an outpatient treatment program for her. She’s an alcoholic, and she wants to get her life back and not be dependent upon alcohol.

Determine first if your daughter doesn’t need 24-hour supervision. Ask a healthcare provider or a doctor to assess her situation in order for you to know if an outpatient treatment program would be right for her. You can check the yellow pages to find contact information regarding these programs. Ask your doctor for help in choosing which kind of program would be right for yoru daughter. Then, have your daughter select a program that she feels comfortable with.A group of people that has the same background would be good for her as she won’t be feeling so alone.

My daughter has turned to alcohol ever since her dad died. They were always so close and his passing away was really hard on her. Last night we had a talk, and I made her realize that her dad won’t be happy with her if he knew what she was doing to herself. She has already agreed to treatment. Where should I go?

First, you need to know the treatment centers that would be able to help your daughter. Obtaining a list (such as the one I have included as a link below) will be very helpful. You can also ask your local doctor or healthcare provider as to which treatment centers they will recommend.

Hey, I’m sorry about what happened to your husband, but I’m glad that your daughter finally wants treatment. Hang in there. You’ll be fine.

My Daughter Ran Away….again!!?

My sixteen yr old is gone again. Woke up this morning found her in bed with her 18 yr old boyfriend, and her 16 yr old friend on the floor with her boyfriend. She didn’t have anyone over when I went to bed. I kicked everyone out but her, we argued, fussed, and fought. I went to work and she evidently ran away…. AGAIN. She is in therapy, and we go to counseling, she is still failing school and has been caught with drugs and alcohol. Is there anything I can do…. Call the cops… send her to boarding school.. I have two other younger children, and it is destroying our home. Do I have to keep trying??

Mental illness and alcohol are factors; also last contact included some violence. Children are not allowed by father to discuss it openly, except to demonize mother. Counseling currently not an option. Looking for an age appropriate book, perhaps, that deals with loss – specifically loss by choice. A parent resource would be good also. I am aunt of children; concerned about possible feelings of misplaced guilt, anger, loneliness, love.

How can you help her when she won’t seek help? Yet she suffers emotionally. I don’t want to go into details, I know she is suffering. It’s not drugs or alcohol. It’s emotional pain and suffering.She has people who love her, but a lot of pain in her life. I pray for her. She is a nurse and knows she needs counseling but for some reason resists it. Will you pray for her to seek help?

I have talked to her. The police have talked to her. Im not sure if you are all in the US, but I am in Canada and I have looked for boot camp. Her and her 3 friends stole my van for a joy ride a few weeks ago while I was sleeping and you know what the cops said…because there was no damage and they brought it back I cant press charged. She is going to drug and alcohol counselling, but she lies there. Home schooling…that would mean that one of us would have to quit our jobs and financially that isnt realistic. She wouldnt do the homework at home anyway. She is totally defiant. I am hoping that someone who has been through something similiar can let me know what they did. I have done everything I can except send her to foster care. Serious answers only please….I am truly reaching out to anyone who can lend some advice.
