if you’re 14 and you’re in a halfway house, your life sucks, and it’s your fault. theyre gonna try to make you realize that. its fine to have a drink now and then, but you’re still a kid– life doesnt revolve around alcohol, and you should only drink or get high if you’re in a safe place to do it.

theyre not really gonna “do” anything. they’re going to put you in a place with alot of other failures like you, and get you guys to talk to each other. remember: it’s your fault you’re in there, and if you dont wanna go back, just take whatever help they advise and get into AA afterwords.

Question by VZXOREY: How long can I expect alcohol withdrawal to last?
I have been binge drinking daily, 10-12 beers for the last couple of months only.

I have not drank in almost 3 days.

I still don’t feel good, lots of anxiety.

How long will this last, what should I expect?

If you have only been drinking heavily for a few months you can expect anxiety, which you have mentioned, palpitations, sweating, insomnia and possibly depression. These shouldn’t last longer than a few weeks. Be patient if you can and good luck. :) )

I have been drinking about 1/2 to 1 bottle (a fifth) of rum everyday for months now. I am qutting today and the doctor gave me ativan for the withdrawl symptoms but I am still nervous and anxious. How long can I expect the symptoms to last? I have not been vomiting but I am a little shaky and have diarhhea. I had my last drink at 9PM EST last night. I already know about AA and am going to that too, but I just want to know how long I can expect to be physically ill and when I should stop taking the ativan. Thanks.

I can’t answer this question, (I think it varies from person to person). Ask at AA and discuss with your Dr. They should be the best to help. Good Luck and keep going.

This is an opportunity that many people are so thankful they went through. Keep an open mind. You will start to get to know yourself through discussions and education. You will become close to the other people there. You might want to keep a journal so that you can look back at it in the future. I know that being scared of something that you are not too familiar with is normal. They won’t make you do anything that you are not comfortable with other than sharing feelings. The more honest you are, the more you will get out of the therapy.
This will be a great, positive turning point for you. Good luck.

I have never been to a therapist or anything like that. I’m thinking about seeing someone through my college because it’s free counseling. I’m not necessarily a shy person, but I find it impossible to talk about my feelings and to open up to anyone, especially a stranger. I know I need to get some kind of help though, I see so much wrong with myself. Depression, bulimia, drug/alcohol abuse, complicated relationships, deliusions, paranoia… I don’t even know where to start when talking to someone. I was wondering if anyone can share their experiences or first time visits. What can I expect, will the therapist start off with easy questions or just expect me to pour out my life story. I know I need help and I can’t keep putting it off. I’m just very nervous and anxious about how it will go.
