Question by cielo t: Will persons who experience alcohol withdrawal symptoms have to undergo addiction treatment?
I have a friend who was an alcohol addict. She stopped 2 days ago and I think she’s experiencing withdrawal symptoms. She’s been having a hard time sleeping, and when she does sleep, she gets bad dreams. She experiences nausea a lot and has clammy hands. I told her she should get herself treated, but she doesn’t want to. Is this normal?

My guy and I went to about 8 marriage counseling sessions. The counselor seemed nice and helpful, and during session 5 or so said that she believed we could work our problems out. About two sessions later, while just seeing me, she said she felt strange being our counselor when she had doubts about it working out. There is no abuse, drugs/alcohol or cheating, we are just two people from different backrounds who have always struggled. I called the counselor to tell her I was having problems seeing progress (wanting to see if she thought if it was not having a good connection with her or each other) and she told me she agreed and that I should “get out now”. While I respect her professional opinion, I thought I was going to marriage counseling, not divorce counseling. I knew that we argued during sessions and visibly had problems, but was I naaive in thinking that a counselor would suggest divorce this quickly? Should we try another counselor? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

In May, I will be graduating from college with an Associates Degree in Counseling. Recently, I finished two internships– One as a Drug & Alcohol Counselor and the other as a Life Skills Teachers. Both experiences were highly beneficial. I’ve been looking for a job in the field for the past 3 months and haven’t found anything suitable. So I have agreed to take this part time job at an assisted living facility as a Dietary Aide. They pay $13.89 per hour. Is that good pay?
Family and friends are urging me to re-think this, as they have found other job opportunites for me online at a Child Care Center and would like me to apply.
I don’t know what to do. I need the money but don’t want to mess up my future. Please help!
