I don’t have any scientific statements. But I can tell you that I had a head injury over 9 years ago. I still can’t handle much alcohol for my size.

Question by mcqueen: Alcohol recovery, Im having SEVERE depression, help?
I’ve been drinking every day for 4 years. I lost it last Friday after getting laid off, losing my boyfriend, and having an eviction notice sent to me all within 24 hours. I bought a case and drank 20 beers within a 24 hour period (I think, I can’t even make sense of it. I was alone). I asked my boyfriend to come over and talk when I woke up and he said no, so I immediately bought another case and drank about 10 more.

I woke up Sunday and from what I could tell I had a seizure. I went to the ER and admitted what I had done and went thru detox there, then was given Xanax to detox at home. I am still detoxing but after all this time I am now noticing severe and awful depression. I am sitting here crying since I can’t just drink everything away but it seems more psychological now.

Has anyone been thru this? It’s like there is no hope. I’m guessing this will pass but it was bad yesterday and is worse today. Thoughts?

First of all, you are going to have physical and mental withdrawls from alcohol. Even without the emotion from the alcohol, you just lost your job, boyfriend, and house. OF COURSE your going to be depressed. What you need to realize is, this is because you drink. The only way you’re going to get through this is by not drinking. That being said, you ARE going to go through hard times. If you don’t stop, you’ll go through worse. My suggestion to you is to accept that this is going to be hard, but afterwards life will be better. Call your parents, siblings, family or for last resort friends. Preferably parents or siblings. Tell them you have a drinking problem and you need a place to stay to get back on your feet. Start going to AA meetings and find another job. After awhile you’ll get over this withdrawl, you’ll get your own place, you’ll get a job, you’ll get a new boyfriend (or even maybe your ex if he sees how well you cleaned up since he probably left you because of drinking) and you’ll be happy.

Question by karl: Can I join the Coast Guard having voluntarily been in rehab for alcohol?
Thinking of joining the Coast Guard and need to know if you can join having been in rehab (For alcohol. No Drugs). It was 2 years ago and I no longer drink and I am in good shape. The only thing I can find online is rehab for drugs, and it was for alcohol. The 2 are related, but a little less severe (In my opinion). Thanks for any help on this

Yes, as long as you don’t have anything on your record in regards to felony or arrests. You should have no problem joining the Coast Guard. I was in an alcohol program in the Marine Corps, and they allowed me to stay in even after my mess up.

Question by BigBuds: Help quit weed having problems?
I have been smoking weed a few times a week for the past 3 years. I have noticed some negative effects on my short term memory. (It might just be in my head, but it is minor if anything). I go to the gym regularly so I am in great physical shape, that is not a problem. Three months ago weed started giving me weird pressure in my head. Sometimes i get the pressure even when im not high. I hear the pressure is anxiety related, i took valium before smoking once, didnt help. I am on a lot of medications. For ocd, depression, gad, social anxiety, low thyroid, adhd, and bipolar disorder. They keep changing my meds so nothing is steady right now except straterra, prestiq, seroquel, and some new one they added yesterday dont know the name yet. I quit smoking weed, no withdrawal. But I feel the need to get high. I started using valium, percocet, and xanax to get high. I still get the pressure sometimes in my head. The pressure is sometimes in my nose, one side of my head, top of my head, forhead. It is not sinuses. The pressure spot moves around when im high on weed. How can i get this pressure to go away so I can smoke weed and quit using these other drugs. I can not drink alcohol as i have horrible side effects with my medications. I REFUSE to live a sober life. I have been on drug treatment programs so dont reccomend that. Useless unless you want to quit.

It sounds like you are going to have to deal with these side effects until your habits of getting high finally corrode your brain and nervous system enough that you die. Expect a long, painful trip until then because honestly the only way to possibly correct the problem would be to quit while you still can.
