Question by paulbunyan217: Does your body build up a resistance to the bad health effects of alcohol along with the feel good effects?
As I drink more often I require more alcohol in order to get drunk because my brain has built up a tolerance to the feel good effects of the alcohol. I was wondering if the body builds up a resistance to the bad health effects along with it, so that when I’m drinking more drinks in order to get drunk because of the tolerance, will the extra alcohol hurt my body in equal proportions?

while one builds up a ” tolerance” for alcohol the deleterious effects continue to undermine the funcions of the liver heart, kidneys and brain.

Question by cw: Is this allowed in a health care facility? Legal?
my brother went into a drug/ alcohol treatment center for an evaluation and found out that someone there looked up his criminal background, he wasn;t in any legal issue at the time.Are they allowed to do this? I know if your a pt at any hospital/ dr.office this is illegal. Hippa privacy issue

HIPAA has nothing to do with it. All HIPAA regulates is the transfering of medical information from one entitiy to another. It has nothing to do with criminal records.

Criminal records are public information and if your brother was being admitted to a drug alcohol treatment center, they want a criminal background check to see what kind of danger he might be to the other patients, especially if they also treat minors.

in cities? There is one being “merged” with an adolescent unit in town, even the local legislator says it’s just a sneaky way to shut it down. About 500 patients use it per year. Do you think closing it down will increase the crime rate? The legislator says it will end up costing the state more than leaving it open, it costs $ 16,000 and up to house a prisoner. I think that crimes involving alcohol and drugs and psychotic people will increase if the center is closed.
We already got people living in the woods near Wal-mart and suspect that they go there to eat their way through the store and steal spray-paint to sniff while in the woods. Police have found empty cans of paint and large pieces of carpet they cover themselves in and said that they sleep there. Just wondering about when the woods get over-crowded and they come into the neighborhoods. The homeless shelters are over capacity as it is when the weather is bad.

The crime rate will go up and there will be a lot more people not able to support themselves by working. It’s always better to get help for an addiction than to just punish someone because of it.
These are illnesses and should be treated as such

for humboldt county, call humboldt county mental health alcohol/other drug programs (AOD)…7074764054 and ask them. some inpatient programs are singing trees in garberville for 28 days, lee brown/bonnie brown by alcohol/drug care services (ADCS) for 90 days in eureka, humboldt recovery center (HRC) for 6 months in eureka, crossroads by north coast substance abuse council (NCSAC) for 18 months in eureka. the local number for mental health crisis is 7074457715, the narcotics anonymous hotline is 7074448645, humboldt county mental health non-crisis is 7072682900.
