My family is from eastern Europe and my husbands too.
I live in Hungary part time and yes, there seems to be many people that over drink there.
Actually the young love of my husbands life drank herself to death after he left the country and she married someone she didn’t really love that much. She was unhappy and drank herself to an early grave in her 30’s.
Many of our relatives died from some drinking problems.
I think one issue for over drinking is they seemed to always be repressed either by the government or by lack of opportunities. Many people must live in crowded conditions with extented family members because rents are high. Being overcrowded is stressful and drinking is an escape.
Long hours of working without seeing an end in sight isn’t condusive for a happy life.
