Question by Max Power: Can anyone help me with an idea of what inpatient alcohol abuse treatment might cost with VA benefits?
I want to get my father to go into a treatment facility. Cost is a factor. He is a three-and-a-half-year veteran in the Navy and so a Veterans Administration hospital seems to be logical.

Private inpatient programs seem to cost over $ 20,000 (30-day program). Does anyone know what it might cost at the VA hospital? My father is 67 and draws about $ 2,700 a month from Social Security and other sources.

Thank you.

any decent hospital should be able to utilize his VA benefit, plus his medicare? Does he have medicare? Can he elect his medicare benefit fast? I just went through this and found a great place for my family member for $ 12,850 for the 28 day program. My family member is there now and doing very well. Email me if you want, I can tell you about my attempts to “reinvent the wheel” this past month with no money!

Question by David C: I got a fantastic Idea To Curb Alcoholism and Underage Drinking, Worldwide?
Why don’t we introduce an ID card that holds our info on Alcohol and ID, A, just like a Driving License and/ or a credit card does hold info about us. It should initially be required to buy alcohol in licensed bars/ restaurants and then expanded to include supermarkets and Liquor stores later.

It could be organized by The Various Driving License Bureaus around the world, or it could be orchestrated by Visa, MasterCard and American Express or even a separate Government Agency.

We could try it in one country first, (UK since were the worst in terms of alcohol problems) before it expanded around the world

When we go into a bar, the staff swipes our card to confirm ID and if we have any issues regarding, alcoholism, fines, banned from any bars, assaults etc and then they cannot serve us as we have issues. No card No Served.
This Idea could be fine tuned by some serious brainstorming sessions by relevant Governments and/ or elected peoples.

Got a better idea? What do you think?

I know it’s a big privacy issue, especially in the USA but this is a major Medical, Underage drinkers, Alcoholism issue that I think most people would say yes to almost eliminate these problems.

When stupid people buy alcohol for underage or alcoholics, police will ask how they bought it, it will then go on that stupid persoons ID and they will be prevented from doing it again, some will slip through but eventually they will be caught as these youngsters nearly always get into trouble with the police aftyer getting drunk.

Maybe these hole in the wall liquor places should be closed down anyway, my proposed system would apply to them too anyway, they would have to swipe your card and see if you are allowed alcohol, privacy issues, we have to combat this alcohol problem just like terrorism at the Airports. You can have alcohol so long as you are old enough and you have proved that you have not been in trouble with the law
TRID

For the same reasons that we have to control Cigaretts/Tobacco, speeding.and parking illegally, We can’t be relied upon to police it ourselves.

Good parenting will help too but there needs to be a first defence against alcohol.

In Arizona, you have to swipe your license or ID card to get Alcohol.

It could e added info on a Credit card or Drivers License or ID Card.

Even if it was a seperate machine, it would still save Billions in less crime and jail/ rehab time as Billions more in Hospital medcal time.

Sur if people are determined let them make their own alcohol and drink it in their own homes at least they are not affecting innocent bystanders when they get Drunk

My family has been going through a lot of turmoil through the last few years, mainly based around my mother.
My older brother started to abuse alcohol and drugs in his early teens, attempted suicide before leaving middle school, and has been arrested countless times for various, stupid acts.
My younger sister has had one hell of an attitude for as long as I can remember, and gets into frequent spats with all of the members of our family. Her most recent stunt is not coming home at all last night, and not bothering to call. She’s barely 15. She did the same thing earlier this summer, leaving the family to worry sick. She was less than unapologetic both times.
I’m the mostly normal one, besides the fact that I’ve gone untreated for depression since the I was 13 years old, and that I ran away for three days when I was 16. I live with many personal ailments that I’m afraid to bring up to my overbearing, sarcastic, oblivious mother.
My dad takes it all in stride, and uses sensitivity to try to solve things. Bless his heart, the only person he seems to get through to is me. My mom claims that he doesn’t set boundaries, and that’s why we continue to have problems. They are constantly fighting about how to raise us kids, and how we should have raised my brother, who now lives on his own. My mom threatens that she might move out soon, that she cannot stand to live with my dad and his thoughts. I’m 18, and I can’t stand to listen to her immaturity for much longer. I’m at my breaking point, and I would really like to solve this once and for all.
Any advice?
