Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but I’ve only recently encountered the term. Is this the same as alcoholism treatments?

The main goal of an alcohol intervention is to get the addict to undergo treatment. Not only that, but interventions also offer resolutions not just for the drug or alcohol dependent, but also for the people who have been affected by this as well. Though intervention is not treatment, it does make a difference to the patient because this is when he gets to learn a lot about his condition. This might also be a good way to make the addict realize what he has done to himself because of his addiction and how he might go along the road to recovery. Question by skyblueyou: How do we do an alcoholic intervention with someone living in another state?
Hypothetically speaking, say my friend lives in the Midwest and his family and I live on the east coast. My friend has a serious illness and is an alcoholic who is in denial. He is drinking dangerous amounts of alcohol and his doctor is warning him about damage to his liver. He refuses to go to AA meetings. He has a legal disability that prevents him from getting around very easily. What kind of intervention should his family do if they live half way across the country?

If he’s in denial nothing. And especially since you can’t check what he’s stockpiling in his room. Realistically nothing. He’s not breaking any laws. You could inform social services if he is in danger to himself or the public.
You could ring up and have a chat but if you think it would change him well it would be easier for you to fly to the moon.

Question by jones.luis_fred: Is alcohol intervention an effective way to treat alcohol addiction?
Ever since my best friend’s boyfriend broke up with her, she’s gotten back to drinking alcohol. She’s been so messed up and I just want to help. I’ve heard about alcohol intervention and I want to know more information about it because it might just be the kind of help that my best friend needs. I’m so worried about her.

One of the ways to prevent further alcohol dependency is alcohol intervention. Alcohol intervention comes in the form of counseling from physicians or nurses. They will explain the negative effects of alcohol dependency and point out strategies that will help one reduce alcohol consumption, or better yet, go into abstinence. So far, this form of intervention has been successful in reducing drinking, alcohol dependency, and other problems related to alcoholism. It has been proven to be effective, but your best friend must have the will to be able to undergo this. You have to be there to explain to her that relying on alcohol is not a good thing. I hope she gets better soon. Tell her not to waste her life over a boy.

Recently, I have noticed that after attending a series of gathering and too much social drinking, I am beginning to get addicted to alcohol. I want to get professional advice about alcoholism intervention before it gets too late.
