Question by joey: I just want to ask, is there a facility that offers both alcohol and drug treatment?
My uncle is both a drunkard and a drug addict. I can’t let him live like that. I’m turning him into a rehab (whether he likes it or not) because I know he really needs help. I just want to know if there are rehabs that offer treatments for both alcohol and drug cases. Please let me know asap.

Question by : why is alcoholism considered a disease and not just a weakness?
you can overcome it with willpower alone unlike cancer and aids (real diseases) and the inability to do so is surely just a weakness?
Best answer:
Answer by Mike G. It is just weakness but people always want something to blame it on instead of themselves

Question by : If alcoholism is a disease, why don’t people just go to the doctor?
Wouldn’t it be easier to go to rehab and therapy instead of going to Alcoholics Anonymous? How can they expect to get better if A.A. says alcoholism is a lifelong disease? Why is it that alcoholism is called a disease but doing cocaine or other drugs isn’t? I understand they might be ashamed but they need to get over that if they want to get better.
Best answer:
Answer by J B You apparently don’t have a good understanding about alcoholism. It is an addictive disease, just like drug abuse/smoking/any other substances and is difficult, at best, to treat yourself. Most people do not have insurance that would cover rehab and therapy which can run tens of thousands of dollars. Many have gone to their doctor for help with this initially but, once they go back to drinking, they are embarrassed because they do not have enough “will power” to stop which is foolish. It takes support, medications and a physician to help anyone through this process. The support is what AA does. Without it, many go back to their old patterns. None of this is easy for anyone who has an addiction and failure rates are very high.

Question by Lina: My brother just got out a rehab center and is straight back to drugs and alcohol. What should we do?
My brother is 21years old and has been smoking, drinking, popping pills, taking cannabis since he was 12-13 years old. He has dropped out 4 universities and is a heavy alcoholic, his priorities in life are completely misplaced, he is a pain to be around and nobody in the family enjoys his company because he is a bully, abusive, lazy and to put it in a nutshell tends to be a waste of space. We finally sent him to rehab which cost us a lot of money, and guess what he comes out, next day, straight back into lying, taking cannabis and hiding to drink when he thinks nobody can see him. We are sick of him because his behavior is affecting my parent’s health and the family peace. He has everyone fooled including his counselors who keep calling to check up and he tells them he is off it. I have tried to be supportive especially since he got out, but I CANNOT stand the lies, hypocrisy and bad temper he is dishing out. He thinks he is invisible and I’m sick of him.

Answer by barthebear I would try to transfer your anger from him over to the rehab and counseling profession who is ready to take all your money while the recidivism rate remains quite high. I am very sorry for you but it is up to your brother to want to help himself. I dont know if your parents will be able to break away and have a separate life from him, but I would think they would definitely want YOU to move on and not let it get to you. I wouldnt spend more money sending him back. I am so sorry
