Question by VZXOREY: How long can I expect alcohol withdrawal to last?
I have been binge drinking daily, 10-12 beers for the last couple of months only.

I have not drank in almost 3 days.

I still don’t feel good, lots of anxiety.

How long will this last, what should I expect?

If you have only been drinking heavily for a few months you can expect anxiety, which you have mentioned, palpitations, sweating, insomnia and possibly depression. These shouldn’t last longer than a few weeks. Be patient if you can and good luck. :) )

Question by Quechyyy: Alcohol Poisoning..how long does it last and what are the symptoms?
I got very sick from drinking, and threw up that night, as well as the next morning. It’s been 2 days since I drank and I still have a headache. Could I have had alcohol poisoning?

You probably did get alcohol poisoning, though I’m sure it wasn’t severe enough to warrant an ER visit if you’re still alive. This should teach you a lesson about drinking if nothing else.

Question by surf b: How long can I expect alcohol withdrawal symptoms to last?
I have been drinking about 1/2 to 1 bottle (a fifth) of rum everyday for months now. I am qutting today and the doctor gave me ativan for the withdrawl symptoms but I am still nervous and anxious. How long can I expect the symptoms to last? I have not been vomiting but I am a little shaky and have diarhhea. I had my last drink at 9PM EST last night. I already know about AA and am going to that too, but I just want to know how long I can expect to be physically ill and when I should stop taking the ativan. Thanks.

I can’t answer this question, (I think it varies from person to person). Ask at AA and discuss with your Dr. They should be the best to help. Good Luck and keep going.

Question by chell: How long do withdrawal symptoms last for an alcoholic going through recovery?

Best answer:

Answer by Alex
Two of the most likely possibilities are:
If you suddenly stop taking Lexapro, you may feel like you have the flu. You also might have trouble sleeping, have an upset stomach, have shock-like sensations in the arms and hands, feel dizzy, or feel nervous. This usually begins within 1 to 10 days after you stop taking Lexapro. It is not dangerous or life threatening and usually goes away within one week. Not everyone who stops taking antidepressants experiences this syndrome, and it is less likely if medicines are slowly tapered off over a few weeks.

The other possibility is the return of depression symptoms. Antidepressants need to be continued for at least 6 to 18 months in most people for depression symptoms to stay away when the medicines are stopped. Stopping them too early means that within days to weeks (occasionally 1 to 2 months) symptoms of depression return. These can include irritability, fatigue and change in appetite, among others. Sometimes people need to be on antidepressants for a longer than usual, or even indefinite period of time.
