Question by enigme_zagadka: Why is it okay to be predisposed toward “being gay”, but people try to cure inherited alcoholism or violence?
The argument is either “God made me this way” or “My DNA made me this way.” How can it be okay to be genetically predisposed toward same-sex attraction, but not okay to let your genes dictate what actions you take in other spheres of your life?

a short list of heritable traits and how (some people say) society accepts them:
gay – okay?
alcoholism – not okay?
violence – not okay?
gambling addiction – not okay?

Are the tendencies toward heritable but not desired traits any less “natural” than whatever might genetically incline a person to “be gay?”

All four of these things are not genetics. They are sin, and therefore not okay. This ‘I was born that way’ argument is new. and a lie from the pit of hell.

Drama such as being left by two girls you liked in one month added to being afraid of never finding anyone else.

Due to associations like M.A.D.D. and the like, there are many states with much stiffer punishments for D.U.I.s and pocession of narcotics. But what about the millions of children who get molested and raped every year? Although driving drunk is unsafe to the drinker and people around them, they arent directly having pre-conceived intentions of hurting anyone and can serve up to 5 yrs for doing so. While I have no probelm with that, I do have one with the lesser punished child molestors and rapists.Predators out to take young childrens virginity and innocence typically get up to 18 mon.to 2 yrs. A person convicted of a sex crime is twice more likely to repeat it a 2nd time. They have to register as a sex offender and cant find good jobs as well as the stigma of being labeled a perv so they feel like “whats the point?Im a perv to everyone anyway.” While they deserve it, its very hard to make a turn-around under those self-inflicted conditions. That being said, the jail sentencing should be more stiffer to help motivate offenders to make that change and go daily to counseling and programs to help stifle those “urges.” Alcoholics/drug attics are prisoners of their addiction, its true. But sex offenders, they are prisoners of their own thoughts they have everyday.Which is worse? Is one worse than the other? What are your thoughts on it?A lot of predators were victims of molestation themselves. If they are shown its wrong and not their faults in the first place, there would be a less chance of making more and more child abusers.
I am a victim of several sex offenders and none were ever convicted. One was my own step-brother and my family wanted to protect his reputation so they didnt take the steps in order to help me heal and him to have the proper legal consequences.Who knows, maybe he has already hurt somebody else. Why wouldnt he? He had no repercussions the first time.
