Question by Itstartshere27: Why do police hate marijuana so much?
I don’t understand the logic. Its pretty evident that people have been using marijuana for literally thousands of years. No on ever thought it was a threat or remotely harmful until America decided to slap a prohibition on it. I never seen a family ruined over marijuana, I have seen there lives ruined by the fact that is illegal though. To tell anyone what they can or can’t put in there bodies is just preposterous. Drink away though! My family has been torn apart because of alcohol abuse by the way.

Question by : Why is it that police officers have the highest rate of alcoholism, spousal abuse, suicide, and divorce?
I am considering pursuing a career in law enforcement but after having done a little bit of research and talking to a couple of police officers it seems that law enforcement personnel are plagued with alcoholism, spousal abuse, suicide, and divorce. Supposedly their rates for these four categories are higher than the national average. What can explain for these trends and how stressful and fun is a career in law enforcement.. (I would preferably like responses from current or former police officers but anyone is welcome to answer. Please state whether you are involved in law enforcement)

I have not seen a single statistic to support your claims of alcoholism and abuse. If you have one, please post it.

I have seen a statistic on divorce that puts police at 60%. This may seem high, but the average for the entire US is 55%, so it is only slightly higher. You can probably account the extra 5% simply to working holidays, weekends, and lots of overtime.

Suicide has always been high in the police profession due to the stress, long hours, shift work, high expectations, and the fact they see the worst of society on a daily basis.

A 27-year veteran of the Boston Police Department pleaded guilty yesterday to assault charges for shooting a fellow officer with his service weapon after a night of heavy drinking.
Officer Paul Durkin has also agreed to resign from the department, which bars convicted felons from its ranks, spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said.
Durkin, who pleaded guilty to one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, was sentenced to three years of probation and a mandatory evaluation for alcohol abuse
This man intentionally shot another cop, and he gets probation and booze counseling? This is a remarkable development.
Wouldn’t you just love it if this cop showed up at your house to help protect you against a home invasion?
Geez, time to get a license to carry permit.
Anyone else shooting a cop would get charged “attempted murder with a deadly weapon” in most states.
And if someone shot a drunk cop because he was defending himself, he’d still be labeled a cop killer.
