I am looking for a christian based place to go for residential treatment. I was looking into Mercy Ministries and I am pretty much a no on that and I am a DEFINITE NO on teen challenge. Preferably somewhere in Michigan. Mercy seemed so practical because it’s free, and really sounds like what I need but it’s pretty far away and they require a 6 month commitment and I don’t think I could commit to that. I am struggling with a lot right now… I am only now dealing with a rape that occured in 2002, I have been self-injuring for 10 years now and drug/alcohol dependent among lots of other things. I have been in the hospital (mental ward) about 13+ times now, residential rehab once, outpatient rehab once, I guess the list could go on.. I really need some help…. really bad… soon.. I think about suicide way too often.
I’m really scared of being in a strict, religious environment. I was raised christian but walked away from god and the church and I get really angry when I think about god, or hear people talk about him… almost enraged..
I don’t know if I can handle it.. and as for strict, I’ve always been allowed to do what I want.. so yea, I’m terrified… but I need the help. Possibly long term but not a year long.. I dont know what to do!!!!! I need help but nothing has worked!

Why are you angry with God? He is the only one who can heal you.

And if you hate God so much, why do you want to go to a Christian treatment program???

Alcoholics Anonymous it’s free and the only requirement for membership is the desire to stop drinking. Very accessable worldwide. Just look up AA in the phone book. It’s usually close to the first listing.

According to statistics only twenty three percent work, the rest all slip back. Have no idea, how well they work the second time around. Perhaps the same 23%!

I’m on felony probation and took a random drug/alcohol test for a different program,not treatment related,and it turned up positive for alcohol. Can my po use it to violate me?

I have finally made the long overdue decision to seek help for my addiction. Thus far, I’ve officially inquired about only 1 facility, after checking my insurance, they said it didn’t cover much and pretty much said good luck. I know that my insurance covers up to 7,800 for IP chemical dependency, is that not a lot to work with? I don’t need super fancy, but would like to find one w/ a good reputation that is also somewhat aesthetically pleasing. Are there any organizations that are able to point me in the right direction of prospective treatment centers that best suite my needs, financially and mentally. Due to the severity, AA meetings and/or OP treatment would not be enough initally. I need a complete change of environment and lifestyle. Also, I know that I’ve got other psychological issues to deal with and just quitting won’t be enough, but am aware that it is forefront. Do they even have concurrent programs of that nature? Help, I need a treatment center match-maker!
Thanks everyone. I like the idea of going out of the country but that may be a bit unrealistic for myself. I can’t afford that and I doubt that’s part of the out of network provision. My insurance is through an airline so ya never, but I doubt it.
I will have to google Narconon b/c I have no idea what that is. I’m going to check out the intervention sight and ironically that’s what made me think of a treatment matchmaker. I really thought that admitting this shameful, embarrassing defect would be the toughest part, but I was wrong. I just cannot bare the thought of asking my recently retired parents to spend such a significant amount of money for something that is not even guaranteed. Also, they say those closest usually know and I believe they do to a certain degree but I’ve gone to extraordinary length to hide this. My parents would be so embarrassed and ashamed of me, so I would rather not get them involved.

Yes, there are. I think some rehabs even encourage this. Studies have shown that patients respond positively to treatment when a non-alcoholic close friend or family member is there to undergo counseling and therapy with them even for just a couple of times. This will not only have a positive effect on the patient, it will also foster a stronger and deeper relationship between them. I think you should ask around for alcohol rehabs with programs like these. It will really benefit your dad, as well as your mom.

My dad has a really serious problem. He’s always liked a drink but it was never serious until three or four years ago when he began to drink heavily. In the last two years he lost his license, his job and has recently had a few seizures and cardiac issues that have been caused by his drinking.

He’s tried to stop drinking on his own and did for a while but is now drinking again worse than ever. He gets up at 2am and starts drinking and then drinks all day and goes to bed around 4pm.

He needs help whether he wants to believe it or not. I need a program that is NOT Alcoholics Anonymous. AA is too focused on religion and is too ‘touchy-feely’, he will not respond to it. He himself has extensive counselor training, so he feels that he knows all about it and it will not help him. He’s too arrogant to respond to it.

Does anyone know of a program that is really down-to-earth, these are the facts, this is what will happen to you if you dont stop, kind of thing?

Alternatively, is there a place where he can be made to dry out, kind of ‘commited’ if you will, where he cant leave until he’s sober?

So take all that I say, with the knowledge I was married for a short time to an alchoholic, have a father that is a raging one right now and a sister who is dealing with alcohol and RX drugs.

You can’t get your dad into anything unless he wants to. He may get himself into trouble while drunk, he’ll get thrown in the slammer till he sobers up and then be released. He will only be put on a 5150 (a mental status 72 hour hold) if he is threatening to hurt himself.

Begging, pleading, talking etc. will do no good to some who take alcohol above all else. THEY have to hit rock bottom, WE can’t help them do it. We have to stand by and watch.

That being said, YOU can get yourself help. Call Al-Anon or a local treatment facility and find out what they suggest for you to pursue, because we as children of alcoholics loose a lot too, we loose a parent in the process. I don’t see getting my Dad back, thank goodness I don’t live nearby to see him or my sister run themselves into the ground!

You could check on a Christian 12-step addiction recovery group. Ask a Baptist church where there is one near you. You could call a library about finding local info about a live-in program too. Also, God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end — time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God’s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can’t explain the world’s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner’s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: “Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.” I’m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could try out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group to learn about God’s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life.
