Question by Stephen: Am I at a greater risk for alcoholism?
I had an uncle who was a very serious alcoholic. He basically ruined his body and life. According to him, he was an alcoholic from the first taste of champagne he had at 14.
I’ve heard it said that if you have a family member who is an alcoholic, you’re more likely to become one yourself. I’ve never drunk, and don’t plan to until I turn 21. But if I’m at risk for becoming like my uncle, I’d have serious thoughts about ever drinking at all.

Children or close relatives of alcoholics are at a higher risk of becoming alcoholics themselves. They’re “predisposed” to the disease through genetics. An uncle is very closely blood related to you, so I would definitely say that you could be predisposed to alcoholism because of that.

I have noticed that every time a person consults a doctor and is diagnosed with an illness, he is advised to stop from drinking alcohol. The same thing happened to me. My doctor told me to stop drinking alcohol because he said it will make my condition worse.
