Question by lkps: Should I have sex with my husband while he is in alcohol recovery?
I have just recently left my husband to give him space to deal with his alcoholism. He is on the right path, and we have a good goal, for him to stay at our old house, sober and in treatment for 6 months, when he can move in with me and our kids if he is still sober and in treatment of course. My question is, should we be “dating” and having sex and hanging out even thought we are in separate homes and are leading separate lives at this point?
I ask because we are on the same page, we have the same goal and he is willingly admitting and working on his problem – so I want to keep the connection between us alive and healthy while he is in treatment… is that right or wrong?

I do know that Im gonna have to live there for a long time and I know about the phases and privledge points and blah blah. I mean what will I have to do? Will they just make me sit there in a room or what? Theyve gotta make us do something. Im 14 if it matters.

if you’re 14 and you’re in a halfway house, your life sucks, and it’s your fault. theyre gonna try to make you realize that. its fine to have a drink now and then, but you’re still a kid– life doesnt revolve around alcohol, and you should only drink or get high if you’re in a safe place to do it.

theyre not really gonna “do” anything. they’re going to put you in a place with alot of other failures like you, and get you guys to talk to each other. remember: it’s your fault you’re in there, and if you dont wanna go back, just take whatever help they advise and get into AA afterwords.

im having a blood test on monday. will drinking today affect it??

Yes, the BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) will not completely be diminished. If it is for the police or for a medical condition they will be able to detect small ammounts of alcohol.

Food/drink (other than alcohol) that would be good or bad to help me through the shakes and nausea?
Oh lord… iron levels? So if mine have been low (to the point of needing transfusions before), I really ought not to be trying this???

You should get a nurse to help you. Don’t attempt an alcohol detox alone – you will make it much harder for yourself.
There is no special diet. Just make sure your iron levels are stable and you might want to take s/thing to rebalance your electrolytes..
oh make sure you are hydrated, with water. And get something to do. You’ll be climbing walls if you don’t. Been through it.

I am the only girl of 4 children. My mother LOVES her screwed up sons, but hates me.

I am 24 and have made a good life for myself, I was a really good kid and never got into trouble!

She invites me over and then tries to fight with me about stupid stuff (like my brother’s alcoholism, things that happened when I was a kid that she says never happened, my husband and I planning our first child!)

I end up telling her I need to go home because her arguments escalate and she won’t let it go until she wins!

She was verbally abusive to me as a kid, it took a year of counseling to accept that my mother doesn’t treat me with respect or love.

I have come to terms with the fact that she will not change, and although I love her because she is my mother, I do not like her as a person.

I honestly never want to see her face again.

I am a happy person, but when I see her I am miserable and end up leaving her house looking and feeling like the bad guy.

What do I do?
I cut her off completely for 6 months and she is back to her old tricks again!
I wrote her a 5 page letter about how she hurts me and why I don’t like seeing her anymore.

She told me it was B.S. and said she was keeping the letter to show me what a bad daughter I am!!!
