Question by kaycee: Is there a drug and alcohol rehab in Brooklyn, New York?
My colleague Dave approached me yesterday to tell me about his secret: he is addicted to alcohol and drugs. I was surprised about what he said and I asked him why he decided to tell me about it. He told me that he needs my help. He asked me if I know a drug and alcohol rehab somewhere in Brooklyn. He said that he finally gathered the courage to admit his problems and he asked me to accompany him to a rehab. I think he’s doing the right thing and I’m very proud of him. Please help us find a rehab in Brooklyn. Thanks.

You must be very trustworthy. Of all the people in this world, he chose you to keep his secret and he asked you to come along with him. I admire people who voluntarily enters rehab facilities. Here are some links to websites containing very helpful information about alcohol and drug rehabs. Good luck!

Question by M: Is it true there is a alcohol addiction gene that is only found in men?
Last year in health class I learned that there was a gene that was only found in men that can make it much easier to get addicted even on the first drink. However my sister says that is impossible because all sex related genes means that there is a chance that a girl can have it too and that it is just more likely in men (like colorblindness). Who is right?
Sources would be helpful.

I am aware of no sex-related gene that would be related to addiction. However, men tend to become addicted to alcohol more frequently than women simply because you find so many more males who drink as compared to females. Not saying there are no females who drink; there are. I just said there are more males who do so than females. Ergo, more male alcoholics than female.

Question by CrazyChick: Is there a diet I should follow if I’m planning to detox from alcohol at home?
Food/drink (other than alcohol) that would be good or bad to help me through the shakes and nausea?
Oh lord… iron levels? So if mine have been low (to the point of needing transfusions before), I really ought not to be trying this???

You should get a nurse to help you. Don’t attempt an alcohol detox alone – you will make it much harder for yourself.
There is no special diet. Just make sure your iron levels are stable and you might want to take s/thing to rebalance your electrolytes..
oh make sure you are hydrated, with water. And get something to do. You’ll be climbing walls if you don’t. Been through it.

Wow, I scoured the web and couldn’t find anything. A local Dubai phone book, or international information may be your best bet.
Good luck.
