I’ve been relying on alcohol lately, and it’s gotten to the point wherein it’s already a problem. My marriage is already experiencing strains because of this. I want to get help. How should I start?

There’s this Center for Marital and Family therapy in Manhattan. You could try checking that out and see if they do treatment programs for alcoholics like you. Otherwise, they could help you patch up things with your husband and to better your relationships at home.

Question by grace: Is there a treatment program for alcoholics in Hudson, New York?
We were asked to do a research about the different activities included in a alcoholic treatment program. I’m really interested in the project and I want to come up with the best report in our class. I’m planning to conduct interviews with alcoholic patients, therapists and counselors. Does anybody know of a great alcohol treatment facility here in Hudson?

There are websites which contains a list of rehabilitation and treatment facilities for alcohol and drug abusers. I’ve posted some of them. Please check them out to see if there’s one in Hudson. I need to do this for my friend. Among the two of us, she has always been the more responsible one. She looked after me as if I was her little sister. Ever since her boyfriend broke up with her, though, things changed. I would often find her slumped on her bed whenever I visit her house. She hid it from us, but she has also been indulging in alcoholic beverages as well. I sat beside her all day yesterday. We reminisced and cried, and she finally agreed to get herself treated for her alcohol addiction. This is why I need to find substance abuse treatment centers. Any help will be surely appreciated.

Oh, I’m so sorry about what happened to your friend. It’s really not worth it– ruining her life over just a guy, I mean. It’s a good thing that she has already realized that she’s not doing herself a favor by indulging in alcohol. Just keep on being there for her as your moral support and encouragement would surely make a lot of difference. As for treatment centers, the links below will help you in finding them. You can also ask your friend’s parents to take her to a hospital so she can get checked up on by a doctor. The doctor will then be able to tell your friend what kind of treatment program she should undergo as well as which treatment center will get to provide her with this kind of treatment. Good luck!

I want to find addiction treatment centers because I’m planning on being an addiction counselor. I have seen a lot of lives get ruined by drugs and alcohol, and I figured I might as well do something about it. I just want to talk to people who are also addiction counselors so that I may know how to become one.

Wow. That’s really great. It’s a very noble dream to pursue. I think you have to take up a few courses or a program in order for you to become an addiction counselor.
